Samskrita Bharati USA’s Distance Learning Program (DLP) provides a unique and flexible way to learn Samskritam. You can study at your own pace, wherever you are!
Our program features simple and engaging lessons, complemented by MP3 audio for the initial two levels. These lessons incorporate:
- Stories and puzzles
- Glimpses of Samskritam literature
- Innovative language learning methods
No prior knowledge of Samskritam is required; we start with the absolute basics. After successfully completing all four levels, you’ll be able to understand shlokas from original texts like the Bhagavad Gita or Ramayana on your own!
DLP Levels and Course Materials
The Samskrita Bharati DLP is divided into four comprehensive levels:
- Pravesha
- Parichaya
- Shiksha
- Kovida
Each level includes 12 booklets. The first two levels (Pravesha and Parichaya) also come with a CD. Every booklet contains multiple lessons with built-in review exercises, and you’ll find the answers at the end of each booklet. The medium of instruction for the entire program is English.
Exams and Advanced Opportunities
Exams are conducted twice a year, in May and November. Registration periods are in March and September, respectively.
Successfully completing Samskrita Bharati’s Kovida exam can open doors! It permits direct enrollment into a graduate program in Sanskrit at Karnataka State Open University. Essentially, finishing the SB DLP with the Kovida certification can facilitate your entry into a Master of Arts (Sanskrit) program.
Optional Tutorial Classes
To help students prepare for the Pravesha, Parichaya, and Shiksha Exams, tutorial classes are available. These special study groups are designed to put students on a fast track for exam preparation. While the sessions aim to prepare you within a specific timeframe, it remains your responsibility to follow through on preparations, register, and appear for the exam. These sessions involve formal teaching and are particularly beneficial for those who prefer to prepare with the guidance of a teacher.
